Secret to Success:

"We don't just care about the sale, we care about you!"

Sunflower CreationsA plan for a family venture rapidly and successfully became a reality for Gerald and Lois Nichols and their children, Jonathan and Anda. Sunflower Creations is a sewing center/quilt shop offering custom machine quilting, sewing machine service and repair and in the fall of 2010 became the BERNINA authorized dealer for Southwest Kansas. It is a much needed and appreciated business for people living in Southwest Kansas and surrounding areas. This multi-tasked shop sits in a rural area north of Copeland. Initially they planned to open a sewing machine dealership and repair service but soon found out that they needed a brick and mortar store. Armed with this knowledge and seeing the need for long arm quilting, they purchased a Gammill long-arm quilting machine, learned how to use it, began offering custom quilting, and then built the 50 x 70 foot retail shop. Beautiful quilts adorn the walls of the bright airy shop showcasing the entire line of BERNINA Sewing, Quilting and Embroidery machines along with quality quilting fabrics, batting and notions. They also offer classes on quilting, sewing machine & serger use and embroidery, and help customers design their own unique quilts.

They approached the GCCC KSBDC with their initial ideas and worked through the business plan and financial projections with their consultant. As the business has grown, so has their relationship with the KSBDC as they have worked together on marketing, signage, and accounting. Lois and Gerald are relaxed, calm, and positive about their future. "Its a leap of faith," Gerald said, "but we really have that faith in our community and their interest, and the need out there for what were offering." Sunflower Creations...."creating a stitch in time".
